Sunday morning in Orlando was nothing short of a nightmare. The Florida metropolis is usually best known for its theme parks, particularly Walt Disney World. However that has been sadly overtaken this week after a hate-fueled act of domestic terrorism at Orlando’s Pulse Nightclub that resulted in 49 deaths and dozens more injured. In the wake of the mass shooting, the entertainment giant has generously donated $1 million to the OneOrlando Fund. The fund was created by Orlando mayor Buddy Dyer to help the victims and families of this event.

The OneOrlando funding page states:

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer announced the formation of the OneOrlando Fund. The purpose of the Fund is to provide a way to help respond to the needs of our community, now and in the time to come, after the effects of the Pulse tragedy.

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts chairman, Bob Chapek, said:

“We are heartbroken by this tragedy and hope our commitment will help those in the community affected by this senseless act. With 74,000 Cast Members who call Orlando home, we mourn the loss of the victims and offer our condolences to their families, friends and loved ones.”

In addition to their substantial monetary donation, Disney is also matching employee monetary donations 100% by Disney Employee Matching Gifts: A Program of The Walt Disney Company Foundation. They are also coordinating with OneBlood to allow employees to donate much-needed blood as well as providing complimentary lodging and accommodations for the families of the victims.

What can one say? It’s horrible that there is need for this at all, but it also helps restore a bit of faith in humanity when such a large, prolific corporation like Disney steps up with open hands. We salute you, Walt Disney Company.
